ClassDojo: Advanced Features

In this third post I will delve into what I consider advanced features. I haven't used all of them, but I explored their possibilities as a user with my ClassDojo classes.

Creating Stories, adding photos & files, managing groups.

Classdojo facilitates the creation of class stories, adding photos, files and cards that can be used by the students and parents. This would help in creating a sense of community and belonging. Another way is creating small groups within your class. This allow the teacher to distribute the students in an efficient way, increase healthy competition and be effective in delivering content.

Messages and experimental features.

Parents and students can be reached through messages, The messaging can be individualised or in group. Parents can comment on the messages, photos and files, making the app very interactive and social media friendly. The application also offers new features, but as a user you can activated or not this feature to be offered as a trial. Currently, the developers are trying the following aspects: Fullscreen mode, Class goal, Class banner, Desktop notifications.

School Mentor

Once you reach certain levels of usability, Classdojo will offer you a a user to become a mentor. Mentor enjoy increased rights of editing. When I became a Classdojo mentor, I was asked to manage the teachers in my school. I had been given more privileges to ban teachers and students, and delete old classes in or Middle School.

Referring a Teacher

This is an interesting feature, since the app allow you to refer a new teacher to the app as a mentor. This way any other professional can be accepted on the school community virtually.

Professional Development

This last week the pilot has concluded and finally several materials have appeared in Classdojo. As a mentor, you can organise a professional development for your colleagues using videos, exercises and demo classes.
